All these years in New Zealand and I had never been buried past my knees in snow until my excursion to the Mt. Cook village to visit some friends. I had been taunting the snow gods for many winters and they finally taught me a lesson. There is not much to do in Mt. Cook especially when many hiking trails have been closed do to the heavy snowfall. I entertained myself by building snowmen under the tires of people’s cars and a self portrait on the picnic table outside my friend’s house.
The temperature hovered anywhere between -10 and +6 during my stay and I can honestly say I have never EVER been that constantly cold in my life. Good times. The highlight of my stay would have to be watching my friend carry a stolen mini snowman under her arm while navigating the sloped icy roads back to her house (I fell by the way) after an evening of drinking random cocktails in the lounge at the big hotel
