My God Sells Drugs To Your God (revised)

There are two things I dislike discussing: religion and politics. There are no right answers within these topics. Everyone feels the opinion they’re entitled to, is the correct one and chances of them changing their minds are slim to none. The end result of these conversations, are hurt feelings and bruised egos. People are so passionate about religion and politics – more passionate than they are about education or the state of our planet. Having said all that, I feel the need to talk about religion. Briefly.

I believe in God, but not in religion. In fact, I’m pretty much over the idea of organized religion and feel it is an evil concept. I was raised in an organized religion, but do not follow it now. I have my own relationship with the higher power and it's personal. When I attend church, it is usually empty and silent. For me, it is the only way I can hear properly.

The final straw with organized religion was something I heard on the local news the other day. Parents of sextuplets, born a short time ago, have refused medical treatment to save the lives of their babies. The babies need blood transfusions – the parents argue it is against their religion. Two babies are dead and now the Government has stepped in, seizing the other four and providing the medical attention they need.
The parents have wrangled themselves a lawyer (apparently not against their religion) and claim their parental rights have been stripped. I refuse to mention of what faith the parents are, because it doesn’t matter.

I don’t really care what people pick to believe in, but letting your children die because your religion (in so many words) says you can’t allow them to have medical help… I’m sorry, I just cannot accept this. In fact, I am pretty furious. If your religion and religious beliefs cause your family pain and suffering – why the hell would you continue to practice within the realm of that religion? Does anyone believe in themselves anymore? Or do we need to follow, down on our knees, out of fear of going to hell or worse yet, Ohio?
