Hokitika Beach in Winter

There is a section of the road just as you leave the town of Greymouth heading south towards Hokitika that stirs emotion in me every time I drive it. It bends to the right and as you start to descend an incline you begin to curve left and you get your first real look at the ocean. Its shimmering surface is complimentary to the abundant beauty of the sub tropical rainforest that clings to the rocky formations on the other side of the road. This is the start of a drive that gives me a sense of peace and belonging. I can’t help but to feel all is right in my world when I reach this point on the West Coast.
